Series: The Yellow King

The Yellow King” invites viewers into a collage journey that weaves together fragmented narratives, evoking a haunting exploration of our society's darkest shadows. Through the juxtaposition of bones, intricate drawings of birds, gourds, hats, and other objects as symbols, politics, bigotry, and racism unravel within the enigmatic tales of the Yellow King. The layers of imagery create a disquieting landscape.  Amidst this unsettling landscape, the presence of birds emerges as a metaphor. Avian creatures, emblems of freedom and flight, paradoxically symbolize entrapment and manipulation of systemic bigotry, as they try to protect a symbolic crown.  Their drawings echo the intricacies of power structures, suggesting the interplay between these opposing forces. The birds' presence both illuminates and obscures, leaving viewers to question the boundaries between liberation and control, as well as hope and despair. All the work in the series compels viewers to confront uncomfortable truths, prompting reflection on the fractures and ruptures that exist within our society. Through its multi-media collage, the artworks invite contemplation, encouraging a deeper understanding of the consequences of political issues. It serves as a poignant reminder that it is through acknowledgment and active participation in a mending process, we can strive to build a more just and compassionate world.
